I watched the movie Wayne's World for the first time last night and can easily say it goes on my list of "WTF movies," where the only appropriate reaction at the end is "WTF??" So far, I have three:

-The Big Lebowski
-Being John Malkovich
-Wayne's World

Tbh, Being John Malkovich is the WTF to end all WTFs. I can't fathom a person making a stranger movie than that. I will say though, I enjoyed Wayne's World a little more than the other two (Lebowski is HIGHLY overrated in my book, it's the Coen brothers being too weird for their own good (though not to the extent as their later films The Ladykillers and A Serious Man (I really should give Ladykillers a pass because it's a remake of an already-existing story but honestly, I won't)), and Being John Malkovich just had a strange sense of humor that didn't jive with me (as do Charlie Kaufman's other works, although I do like Adaptation. which is probably his most overtly comedic work) and I hated every single character), partly because I thought the two guys were fun characters and their friendship was cute, and partly because it felt sort of same energy to one of my favorite comedy films, UHF. Man that's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen (although it didn't hold up too much on rewatch because I find that most comedies get less funny when I watch them a second time). Ironically, so is Raising Arizona, which can arguably be called "the Coen brothers being too weird for their own good."

In general, I've been trying to figure out if I have a specific genre of movies that I like. Comedies can be very hit or miss, romance is... well, you've probably gathered how I feel about romance in general so it doesn't really apply to my viewing preferences, "drama" seems too broad and all-encompassing... I just like good stories, that's really it. My top five favorite movies would probably be the following:

1. Napoleon Dynamite
2. The Iron Giant
3. Back to the Future
4. Memento
5. Treasure Planet

And none of these really have anything in common. They're just really good stories. It's too limiting to think in terms of genres, and this can be applied to anything.
