Dec. 21st, 2019 05:25 pmI'm writing a GTA IV meta defending Kate McReary as a flawed female character, and the more I write, the more I realize "huh, maybe she wasn't ever THAT bad and it's the writers who are to blame for not making the character more three-dimensional and the fandom to blame for zeroing in on her negative traits and refusing to examine her with a more nuanced perspective." I mean, the entire meta is supposed to be about that, but as I describe her flaws I start feeling like her reactions are the reactions of any sane and rational person when confronted with the possibility of falling in love with a hitman. Maybe with less moralizing and less name-calling, but honestly, I really can't blame Kate for her reactions to Niko, given the position she's in. This will all make more sense when I finish writing and posting the meta.
