I just have to get this one thing off my chest.

Leos Carax had a huge hand in shaping the story of Annette, and obviously he probably had the most input into the visual aspect of it as well. You can praise him for his choices in direction & visual representation.

If you’re praising anything about the story of Annette, though (besides the two major changes that Carax is said to have made), do NOT attribute that to Carax. The story is Ron & Russell Mael’s, through and through. For heaven’s sake, people! It would have been a Sparks album! They didn’t just write the music- they created these characters and the world they live in. They deserve ALL the credit for that!!

I’m sorry, I was just browsing the comments on “We Love Each Other So Much” and there was a lot of stuff like “Leos Carax is a genius!” and “Bravo, Carax! 👏 “ and NOWHERE did I see either of the Maels mentioned, except in the context of the music. And that really does get under my skin, because it was THEIR story FIRST. It’s always been their story, even if the finished product was a perfect marriage between the three main collaborators.

Also god I can’t wait for the day when I never have to think or talk about this movie again because yes, it still gives me major anxiety, but also, the excessive negativity over it from some viewers gets so tiring to read.

So I’m finally ready to finish up my thoughts on Annette, which started after my second viewing of the film, and now that I’ve seen it four times, I just really want to finish up this series of posts ASAP. (And I can always go back and edit this post if I think of something to add.)

I feel like I owe anyone who may be reading my Annette Thought-Dump posts an explanation for why being called stupid bothers me so deeply (since I’m planning on linking to these posts on tumble eventually), but I am NOT getting into that kind of personal shit on here so I’ll just say this: I already call myself stupid enough, you don’t need to do it for me. (Also: that song “Likeable” was written about me. Haha…)

I did actually have one more thought to add to the Annette post, and I won’t hide it since it’s not really a spoiler (though it does make more sense if you’ve seen the movie, obviously). The thought is this: Besides my general awe and gratefulness that a film like this could get made, my other biggest takeaway from Annette is this: “May green grow the grass underneath our children’s feet” (to quote Punch Brothers). I have a newfound drive to help and protect children after seeing that movie.

God, I am DEAD. TIRED. D-E-D tired.

I think because I woke up early, and I also was working on something that gave me a lot of anxiety but hopefully it should be ready to post tomorrow? Downside of all this is that I didn't write anything for my NaNovel today, but I have the next three days off so I should be good to catch up (especially since I already exceeded my word count goal the past couple days).

I really don't have much more to say here, I'm just tired and I want to watch videos on YouTube until I pass out.
