Nov. 4th, 2021 06:39 amI just have to get this one thing off my chest.
Leos Carax had a huge hand in shaping the story of Annette, and obviously he probably had the most input into the visual aspect of it as well. You can praise him for his choices in direction & visual representation.
If you’re praising anything about the story of Annette, though (besides the two major changes that Carax is said to have made), do NOT attribute that to Carax. The story is Ron & Russell Mael’s, through and through. For heaven’s sake, people! It would have been a Sparks album! They didn’t just write the music- they created these characters and the world they live in. They deserve ALL the credit for that!!
I’m sorry, I was just browsing the comments on “We Love Each Other So Much” and there was a lot of stuff like “Leos Carax is a genius!” and “Bravo, Carax! 👏 “ and NOWHERE did I see either of the Maels mentioned, except in the context of the music. And that really does get under my skin, because it was THEIR story FIRST. It’s always been their story, even if the finished product was a perfect marriage between the three main collaborators.
Also god I can’t wait for the day when I never have to think or talk about this movie again because yes, it still gives me major anxiety, but also, the excessive negativity over it from some viewers gets so tiring to read.
