BETTER CALL SAUL THOUGH?!?!?!?!
Just watched yesterday's episode and I. AM. FUCKING FREAKING OUT.
As soon as I saw the prologue, I knew. This show is not Jimmy's anymore, it's Kim's. When he played her, completely severing any amount of trust she could possibly have for him while not even realizing what he was doing was wrong, I saw the anger rising on her face and just KNEW shit was going to go down once the two of them were alone. I even started writing a song midway through the episode based on Kim's expression- "Well I guess you raised some hell, not that I didn't deserve it..." Because I KNEW she was going to raise hell on Jimmy and my god, did she ever. I have never felt more satisfied than hearing Kim say "Fuck you, Jimmy." Her acting throughout that entire scene... when she started crying while yelling at him and you just knew, it hurts her SO much to have to go through with this but there's no other way, she can't have him in her house and her bed anymore... unless... they get married?! That last statement seemed to startle Jimmy. I had always assumed that Jimmy would end up proposing to her, but I didn't expect THIS. I don't know where that's going to go- what advantage does marriage have over their current situation? Their relationship has become so dark so FAST and I love it. Reminds me of how complex Walter and Skyler's relationship was in Breaking Bad, and how much I loved it for the writing even though I hated it because it was bad for the characters...Also, can we talk for a second about Jimmy during that argument, how upset he instantly became, because all he's ever wanted was someone to believe in him and be on his side and now the one person he couldn't afford to lose is pushing him away... and how he behaved with the hookers is nothing like how Saul would have reacted in Breaking Bad (also, I can't stand to see his mean-spirited pettiness playing out against Howard, it's such a cringe to watch), so whatever happens at the end of this season between him and Kim probably shatters his heart for good... And Kim is from Nebraska (revealed in an early season, but returned to in this episode), and Gene after Breaking Bad is in Nebraska, and honestly I think it would be such a waste if they don't tie those things together... I think Gene is going to go out to try to kill the guys who recognized him, but he'll run into Kim on the way, and realize what his life could have been... I also really wish for them to get a second chance together but I have a strong feeling that that's never going to happen. I have no idea how they're going to tie up the Gene story with only one more scene left, and they can't do it at the beginning of the season like usual because they'd have nowhere to go. The momentum would be lost. Though maybe they'll have a continuation at the beginning of the season, and then end the season with the conclusion and that will be the last scene of the show. (It just occurred to me, we also don't know how Saul got his office, and I for one would like to know the backstory on that.)
And then there's Nacho and Mike and Gus... I knew they weren't going to arrest Lalo, that would be too anticlimactic, and was actually expecting some bizarre badass Walter White move like "this is not meth" where he'd blow up the cops surrounding him. But I think now, maybe he does get arrested and Saul comes in to represent him? I don't know. I do still think that Nacho is a dead man walking, but if he gets out and has a good life with his family, that would be nice too.
Funny how Better Call Saul has gone through so many versions of itself... like, before it came out we all thought it would be a sitcom about Saul and his many cases as a lawyer, but it turned out to be a dark comedy with some sad, emotional parts, before moving into a study of the McGill family and an exploration of rivalry between brothers, before moving into an exploration of how grief affects interpersonal relationships, and now it's pretty much a character study of Kim... I can't even believe that those early episodes with Saul and Chuck were even the same show. My god, it's the best thing on TV right now and I can't deal.
