So I heard that a spin-off movie of The Big Lebowski has been released, starring and directed by John Turturro, and it’s gotten a mostly negative reaction from what I’ve seen. And me being me, my main takeaway from this is fear that John Turturro’s fucking up a Coen brothers spin-off could jeopardize the chances of getting a Barton Fink sequel made. John Turturro plays Barton Fink, and the Coen brothers always said that this was the only sequel they wanted to do, and they’d make it when he’s old enough for the part. And it seems like he’s probably old enough for it now. But what if this movie pisses them off enough to not want to work with him, and the sequel never gets made? Not saying I think Barton Fink needs a sequel, but since it’s specifically the only sequel they’ve ever mentioned wanting to do, I at least want to know what they have in mind for it. Gotta admit, though, it just won’t be the same if the climax doesn’t have John Goodman running with a shotgun down a burning hallway screaming “I’LL SHOW YOU THE LIFE OF THE MIND!!”
