Jan. 24th, 2023 07:14 amSPARKS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED THEIR NEW ALBUM! IT’S ALL HAPPENING! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
It’s called The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte. Which is weird and sounds kinda… I dunno… two dudes of their generation commenting on the “sad girl” aesthetic rubs me the wrong way a little, but who knows if it’s even about that. Plus, they’re Sparks. They are definitely not your typical boomers. (Actually, I just looked up the definition of boomer and it turns out Russell is one, but Ron was born a year before the cut-off date so technically, he’s part of the Silent Generation. The more you know! But just like how the cut-off date for a Millennial is a year before I was born and yet, I AM a Millennial, so I’m sure Ron would consider himself a boomer… or, perhaps they don’t define themselves by such constructs. I dunno.)
Anyway, the album’s out May 26, which is the same month when I see Chris Thile! I only hope that I can still see Sparks this go-around, because it looks like they’re pursuing bigger venues and therefore I may have to travel more… also tickets will be more expensive. But I want to see them at least twice, and one of them has to be with my dad! I don’t know if I can do any meeting of fellow fans, but it depends on where they tour tbh. I hope that gets to happen.
I’m still looking forward to new music from Peter Gabriel and The Milk Carton Kids this year, too! Eeeeeeek!!
EDIT: and now I see one reason n why there won’t be any Punch Brothers shows for a while, because Nickel Creek (Chris Thile’s other band) just announced a new album!! Meanwhile, Paul is on tour with his other band, and Critter & Noam have formed a new project and will be releasing an album and touring in support of it, so I guess Punch Brothers is taking the year off to do all these extra things, which is fine. It’s so inspiring to see how these musicians live… so many side projects, but it just means that 1. they’re making a living doing what they love, and 2. they enjoy making all kinds of music with all kinds of people.
