“I hadn’t seen Captain Nemo for over a week, when, on the morning of the 27th, he entered the main lounge, as usual acting as if he’d been gone for just five minutes.” Oh my god I can’t with this man. Pierre Aronnax has way more patience than I do…

…aaaaand I was right! This infodump is probably just for benefit of readers who might not have known about what happened at Vanikoro, but I also like the thought that Aronnax just can’t help himself and has to describe EVERYTHING to Nemo (even though “everybody knows” what happened already). It is nice that he’s comfortable being so enthusiastic around Nemo.
Hahaha, this isn’t the last time Nemo will solve a famous Mystery of the Sea just to impress Aronnax. Let’s wait until we get to the second half of the book…
“A coral grave is a tranquil grave, and may Heaven grant that my companions and I rest in no other!” ~FORESHADOWING!~ To my favorite chapter of the book, no less.
