Aug. 2nd, 2020 10:40 pmSo I found a new cache of Spin City videos, and I'm going to try to download my absolute favorites that I forgot to download years ago (namely the episodes "They Shoot Horses, Don't They" and "A River Runs Through Me"), while I wait to save up for seasons 2 & 3 on DVD. (4 has its moments, but ultimately isn't worth owning the entire thing.) I've been watching episodes ever since the day I rediscovered them, and I realized... I never really gave much thought to how demanding the lead role might have been for Michael J. Fox, especially after he revealed he had Parkinson's. In season 4, Heather Locklear joined the cast as a co-lead to share some of MJF's workload, but in the season 4 episode I just watched, MJF was still doing plenty of physically demanding things- falling down, jumping into people's arms, vaulting over small hurdles (or to be precise, whatever you call the little partition that separates the bullpen area from the main hallway on the main office set). And I just realized, that must have been hard since Parkinson's noticeably affected his motor skills (he wasn't affected as badly then as he is now, but every now and then I'll notice his hand shaking or his leg twitching, or in the episode I just watched, there was one particular scene where he was weaving slightly in his seat- I would never have noticed that if I hadn't seen his more recent interviews where the weaving is a lot more noticeable). I don't want to be "that guy who points out MJF's Parkinson's symptoms in every video," because I've noticed people will do that on YouTube (particularly with older interviews from before he revealed he had the disease), and I certainly don't want to make too much out of his condition- especially since MJF doesn't feel remotely sorry for himself and has never let the disease hinder his lifestyle. I am merely pointing out that I have a new feeling of sympathy for him, having to battle the disease while playing a physically-demanding acting role on a regular basis.
