Fanfic roundup
Jun. 11th, 2020 09:13 pmOkay, I'm still working on two fics that have yet to be posted but I'm impatient so here are a couple of the fics I've written recently:
GRAND THEFT AUTO IV
"A Little Unsteady." Kate McReary has finally begun dating Niko Bellic, but when she agrees to sleep with him, she realizes that intimacy comes in more than just a physical form. Rated E for Explicit Depiction of Sex, or more like explicit depiction of foreplay and then the sex is covered in like one paragraph. Also, keep in mind that it's far more about emotions than it is about yay sexytimes. Word Count: 12,342 (split into two chapters). Pairings: Kate McReary/Niko Bellic.

WAYNE'S WORLD
"More to Life." When Garth's date with his dream woman doesn't go as planned, he talks it out with Wayne to figure out what went wrong. Rated G, it's mostly fluffy with a side of hurt/comfort and really more about friendship than anything else. Word Count: 3,353. No pairings except for Wayne & Garth being the ultimate best friends.

What Is and What Never Should Be. High school slacker Wayne Campbell is all ambition and no action. Socially anxious classmate Garth Algar is all action and no ambition. When they come together by chance, they end up forming a tight bond while navigating typical teenage issues such as intense crushes, scary movies, friendship rivalry, and band practice. Rated T for Typical Teen Movie. Word Count: 36,715 (14 chapters long). No pairings, again except for Wayne & Garth being best friends, plus Wayne being best friends with another dude, plus Wayne lusting after a girl.

"Your Biggest Fan." On the way back from Chicago, after Wayne "rescues" her from Crucial Taunt's music video shoot, Cassandra ruminates on her relationship with Wayne and demands to know where they stand. Rated G, though it's obviously not for kids, but only because they'd probably find it boring or it would fly over their heads. Word Count: 2,418. Pairings: a very tense Cassandra/Wayne.

I honestly still can't believe I wrote not only one, but THREE fics for Wayne's World of all things. I wasn't expecting to get so sucked into it, but I say that about every fandom. It was supposed to be just a stupid little movie, I had no idea I would end up falling in love with the characters. Particularly Garth and Cassandra- Garth is pretty much who I am, while Cassandra is who I want to be. Anyway, I wrote WIAWNSB in exactly two weeks plus one day- for some reason, I just couldn't stop writing or thinking about it. I realized this was sort of spurred by my recent personal issues- again "for some reason," I suddenly needed to write what turned out to be a study on friendship and how people drift out of other people's lives. As for GTA IV, I've written fic for this fandom already so I don't feel like I need to explain myself, except to say that this was also sort of based on personal issues (but more like, me reflecting on whether I could ever be in a relationship and open myself so intimately to another person, than anything concrete that I was experiencing). I'll defend Kate McReary to the end, I swear. Yes, she can be annoying, but GOD that is exactly what is MISSING in fiction. She's NOT a perfect love interest or a perfect person. She's a flawed female character and that automatically means I'm taking her under my wing. (Side note, I noticed recently that I write a lot about a male character putting a female character on a pedestal, and what it feels like to be in that position. My idea of romance has always, ALWAYS been a partnership where people recognize each other's flaws and where no one is elevated over the other. I wrote about that with Kate and even with Cassandra in that last fic, and if I ever wrote a Barry fic from Sally's perspective I'd love to tackle the mindset of someone who realizes their partner is idealizing them, but who enjoys/encourages it.)
The fics I have yet to post are a Red Dead fic about Arthur & Eliza, and a Kingsman fic about Harry coping with Merlin's death (which I could probably bash out this weekend if I really wanted to).
