Feb. 8th, 2020 04:30 pmLive from Here is coming back tonight and I'm so excited. I've been slipping behind on listening to it, and thought maybe I was losing interest because I didn't rely on it emotionally anymore. But now, I feel like I need to rely on it again. I wish i could explain why I've been so... blue lately... I just don't know why. I guess it doesn't matter that much.
Anyway, I was thinking of other episodic content that's coming out or that I've started watching/listening to lately, and... oof. Let's take stock, shall we:
-Live from Here returning tonight with several months of live broadcasts
-Better Call Saul season 5 beginning on February 23rd
-Westworld season 3 beginning on March 15th
-Been watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine lately and the 7th season just started airing, but I'm still a ways behind before I can watch that, but STILL
-Just subscribed to Rhiannon Giddens' podcast, Aria Code, because the second season started coming out, even though I haven't listened to any of the first season yet (I still really want to though)
-My old songwriting teacher, Anne Heaton, began the second season of her podcast How the Song Came to Be and since I enjoyed the first season so much, I subscribed to that too
-A couple of my friends have a Disney-themed podcast to which I have also subscribed, though I haven't gotten to listen to it yet
-And of course Barry season 3 is coming out this year, but we don't have a release date yet. After Better Call Saul, that's the one I care about the most
So, that's a lot of stuff to catch up on. And let's consider some things I'm involved in:
-My part-time job, three nights a week
-My OTHER part-time job, only once a week but I have to be ready at any time to answer questions from customers
-Band practice with two different bands I'm in
-Band practice for myself/recording my album
-A podcast I started with my best friends
-A personal project where I listen to one new album every week for the entire year
So, that's a lot of stuff to do, and a lot of stuff to watch/listen to, and I've been thinking... just where does one draw the line when it comes to media consumption getting in the way of personal goals? Especially since when I'm going through something or feeling bad, I can get really sucked into a show or something to block out reality with fictional narratives, so I won't have to think about what's going on with myself. Today's pretty much a case in point- I thought I'd try to write today, but I fell asleep twice and scrolled through social media and now the day's almost over and the thing I was looking forward to, the LFH broadcast, just seems like another way to waste my time. Except it's not wasting it, because I love LFH and I want to support the show as much as possible. All I'm saying is, I need to find ways to motivate myself, and I can't just wait until the weather gets warmer and I get settled into my new job. I have to take control.
